ABOUT US
From 2021 to 2024, the Hangar Cultural Association coordinated the “JAZZ&IMAGE LIVE@COLOSSEO” festival, Rome Returns to the Capital of Jazz at Celio Park. The project, promoted by Roma Culture, won the public tender for the free concession of outdoor spaces for cultural activities as part of the Roman Summer 2021, 2022, and 2023 program, curated by the Department of Cultural Activities and organized in collaboration with SIAE. “Jazz & Image” not only features concerts, but also a space open all day with seminars, open rehearsals, music courses, and other cultural activities related to jazz, particularly in the field of music therapy for people with disabilities.
Hangar organized the 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 editions of the “NETTUNO JAZZ: SEGNALI DAL FORTE” festival, under the patronage of the Municipality of Nettuno. For 2023, the ‘Spiragli di Luce’ Association, a Nettuno-based association that works for people with disabilities, was involved. Disabled youths accompany spectators as guides for the art exhibition, an integral part of the festival.
In 2023 and 2024, Hangar organized the “ANZIO’S SUMMER JAZZ TIME” festival at Villa Corsini Sarsina in Anzio, a cultural space that, alongside jazz, also embraced poetry, prose, dance, and painting.
In December 2024, it hosted the “VELLETRI JAZZ DAYS” festival at the Aurora Theater in Velletri, under the patronage of the Municipality of Velletri. The three-day festival featured prominent jazz artists, as well as theater, painting, and poetry performances.
In May 2022, Hangar organized the charity concert “OMNIA VINCIT AMOR – STAND UP FOR PEACE” at the Teatro Spazio Vitale in Nettuno to raise funds for the Sant’Egidio community of Nettuno-Anzio.
In July 2021, the Anzio area hosted an important and exclusive jazz concert called “A NIGHT IN ANZIO,” organized by the Hangar Association together with the producer sax player Sylwester Ostrowski in honor of this splendid city. “A Night in Anzio” was an exclusive event featuring the greatest musicians on the international jazz scene, including Igor Butman (RU), Alexander Beets (NL), Albert Bover (ES), Camille Thurman (USA), Freddie Hendrix (USA), Jakub Mizeracki (PL), Albert Bover (ES), Endea Owens (USA), Owen Hart Jr. (USA), and guitarist Francesco Bruno, who represented the city of Anzio and Italy at this exclusive event. The concert was streamed live, hosted by the important American media partner Jazz Corner. A true project to understand jazz as an exchange of experiences and a way of understanding the concept of sound.
In 2003, Hangar organized the production of the CD “JAMILA” for “Manifesto CD” to support a humanitarian project for the construction of a hospital in Sierra Leone. The artistic production was curated by
Francesco Bruno in collaboration with the musical group Agricantus. All proceeds (30,000 copies sold) were donated to the project supported by the humanitarian organization Emergency.
In 2009, Hangar, in collaboration with Francesco Bruno and Angela Terzani Staude, created the project “LE PAROLE ALTRE. IL LUNGO VIAGGIO DI TIZIANO TERZANI.” The project, published by the L’espresso – la Repubblica group, consists of a multimedia box set containing a music CD, a video DVD, and a photo book.
In 2017, Hangar co-created guitarist Francesco Bruno’s multimedia project, “REMEMBER,” in homage to Primo Levi in collaboration with the Jewish Cultural Center of Warsaw. The show, “REMEMBER,” was presented on August 31, 2016, at the Festival of Jewish Culture in Warsaw. The project consisted of a live multimedia performance in homage and memory of the great writer and poet Primo Levi. In May 2020, the Liceo Innocenzo XII in Anzio commissioned the HANGAR cultural association, identified as the ideal provider, to stage a multimedia performance for students on the life and works of Primo Levi.
The Association’s activities are supported by the commitment of volunteers. To organize and manage the activities, as per the Statute, HANGAR provides an integrated team with specialized expertise in key roles.
