ANZIO’S SUMMER JAZZ TIME 2024

CELEBRATING  FRIDA KAHLO

The second edition of Anzio Summer Jazz Time, dedicated to Frida Kahlo, marking the seventieth anniversary of her death, will take place from July 18th to 21st in the courtyard of Villa Corsini Sarsina in Anzio, at the heart of the Roman coast. The program will feature jazz-inspired performances that will also embrace poetry, prose, dance, and painting. Among the musical highlights, the Franco Finucci Quartet will open the program on July 18th. Special guest Rosario Giuliani will present the Taleia project, featuring Franco Finucci

on guitar and Rosario Giuliani on alto saxophone, Luca Bulgarelli on double bass, and Marcello Di Leonardo on drums. On July 19th, Cantare Pieranunzi will feature the legendary Enrico Pieranunzi on piano and Valentina Ranalli on vocals. On July 20th, the stage in the courtyard of Villa Corsini Sarsina will host the Francesco Bruno Quartet in Common Roads. Alongside Francesco Bruno on guitar, they will be joined by Pierpaolo Principato on piano, Andrea Colella on double bass, and Giorgio Raponi on drums. The musical events will conclude on July 21st with E se domani, the new musical project featuring Stefania Tallini on vocals and Franco Piana on trumpet and flugelhorn.

That’s all for the music. But Anzio’s Summer Jazz Time is also a meeting of the arts, which will enliven every day between 8:00 PM and the start of the concerts. This year, a painting exhibition on Frida Kahlo, the inspiration for this edition, curated by Leonardo Leonardi and Silvana Maltese, will accompany the four-day Festival. There will also be readings on Frida, curated by the Il Borgo Theatre Company with Arianna Siraco (July 18: Viva la vida), Loredana Braccioforte and Francesca De Francesco (July 19: The Beautiful Tehuana), Dario Sandro Vaggi and Loredana Braccioforte (July 20: The Elephant and the Dove), and Francesca De Francesco and Ezio Braccioforte (July 21: Frida’s Scream). The program also includes a Living Exhibition with Patrizia Mezzogori and, after last year’s successful experience, moments of Contemporary Poetry by Roberto Iago Sannino. An entire pavilion will be dedicated to a multisensory experience with flowers, curated by Valeria Ballarati, following in the footsteps of Dr. Bach, who recognized their extraordinary healing power. For dance, the program features “Beauty, Elegance, and Passion in Dance,” a meeting with Simona Crivellone and students from the Fuoricentro School, which will feature performances in the Festival Village. Finally, the program includes a book and CD presentation by Alfamusic: Fabrizio Salvatore and Alessandro Guardia will lead the audience on a journey through the many productions that have shaped the label’s prestige over the years.

Under the artistic direction of Francesco Bruno, the Festival is produced by the Hangar Cultural Association with the support of the Municipality of Anzio.
