ANZIO’S SUMMER JAZZ TIME 2025 :

CELEBRATING MARC CHAGALL

Anzio’s Summer Jazz Time returns for its third edition, this year drawing inspiration from the extraordinary figure of Marc Chagall. From July 24th to 27th, the courtyard of Villa Corsini Sarsina in Anzio, at the heart of the Roman coast, will be alive with events that will see the magical blend of jazz with the influences of poetry, prose, dance, and painting. This year’s highlights include: the Lake Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Luca Rizzo (July 24th, 9:30 pm), performing their recent album, The Lake Affair; the Joy Garrison Quartet (July 25th, 9:30 pm); the Francesco Bruno Quartet with a project aptly titled New Heart Waltz (July 26th, 9:30 pm); and finally, the Val Coutinho Quintet (July 27th, 9:30 pm).

But Anzio’s Summer Jazz Time, as we know, is also a meeting of the arts, which will enliven every day between 8:00 PM and the start of the concerts. It opens, for example, on July 24th at 9:00 PM with a dance performance by Simona Crivellone of the Fuoricentro Dance School. She will unveil, to the music of Stravinsky, a free interpretation of Marc Chagall’s works created by Leonardo Leonardi in collaboration with Silvana Maltese.

On July 25th at 9:00 PM, Compagnia Spazio47 will present “When we listen to live jazz” with Giulia Saluto and Stefano Romani, a tribute to jazz. “Jazz plays and everything seems to stop. Two spectators let themselves be carried away by the rhythm… or at least they try. The music improvises outside, while inside their heads another concert takes place: made of thoughts, associations, laughter, and mental syncopations.”

On July 26th at 9:00 PM, the Compagnia del Borgo will present “With the Eyes of Bella Chagall” with Arianna Siraco, a tribute to Marc’s first wife in which Bella Chagall intertwines memory and love in pages suspended between dream and nostalgia. The story of her encounter with Marc: a painter of the soul and light: “You dip your brushes. Red, blue, white, and black splash. You drag me into the waves of color. Suddenly you lift me off the ground, while you take a leap with one foot, as if you felt too cramped in this small room.”

On July 27th, also at 9:00 PM, the Compagnia del Girasole will present “What is a Jazz Musician?” with Gabriele Ciccotosto: “I played. Not to save myself. But because I had no other language. I wanted to be everything. And then disappear. Like a flash. Like a verse that explodes and then falls silent.”

Finally, every evening between 8 and 9 pm, the program includes: Ink Portraits with Iago (Roberto Sannino): short portraits in verse of the audience. Flowers for Children, a guide to the extraordinary healing powers of flowers, with a special focus on children, curated by Valeria Ballarati. Finally, Fabrizio Salvatore and Alessandro Guardia of AlfaMusic will guide you through new releases and classics from the history of jazz.

Under the artistic direction of Francesco Bruno, the Festival is produced by the Hangar Cultural Association with the support of the Municipality of Anzio.
